Event branding checklist for tournaments and activations

A practical checklist for branding a tournament or activation, from identity and signage to content and the day itself.

By Udyansh Gulati, Founder & Creative Director · · 2 min read

Event branding is everything people see, read and photograph at an event, and everything you post before and after it. Tournaments and activations need it done early, because print takes time and changes late are expensive. Use this checklist.

Before: weeks out

  • Name and identity: a name, logo, colours and tagline that work on a banner, a screen and a jersey.
  • A theme or one idea that every piece repeats.
  • A style guide: colours, fonts, logo spacing and how sponsors appear.
  • A list of every surface that needs branding: gate, stage, backdrop, standees, tables, badges, uniforms, vehicles.
  • Sponsor lists and logo files collected early, with their brand rules.
  • Print schedule with time for proofs, and a spare day for errors.

Before: the campaign

  • A save-the-date and invitation.
  • A countdown: posts at set points before the day (as we did for PepsiCo Plog Run: 29 days, 4 weeks and 15 days out).
  • How-to-join and volunteer posts, and a route or venue map.
  • A host or guest announcement.
  • A registration page that works on a phone.

On the day

  • Branding checked and in place before the first guest arrives.
  • A wall, gate or frame made to be photographed.
  • A photographer and a videographer with a shot list, including sponsor moments.
  • Someone posting live from the venue.
  • A named person in charge of branding who can fix problems fast.

After

  • A recap film and a photo set within a few days.
  • Thank-you posts for participants, volunteers and sponsors.
  • A short sponsor report: where their branding appeared and how often it was seen.
  • Notes on what to change next time.

We do event branding, content and coverage for leagues and brand events. See our events service and sports marketing.
