Micro vs macro influencers: which works better in India?

The honest answer is that neither always works better. Micro influencers and macro influencers do different jobs. Choose by what you want to happen, not by follower count.
What each is good at
- Micro influencers (smaller audiences, often a focused niche): trust, conversation and relevance. Their followers often feel they know them, so recommendations land. Good for products with a clear audience and for generating content you can reuse.
- Macro influencers (large audiences): reach and awareness. Good for a launch, an event or a campaign where you want many people to see the same message at once.
How to choose
- Start with the goal: awareness, trial, sales, or content.
- Match the audience, not the number: whose followers are your buyers?
- Consider the budget: a few well-chosen micro creators may reach your audience better than one expensive macro name.
- Think about repeat content: several creators give you more variety to test.
- Plan the follow-up: a creator post is a moment. Pair it with your own content and, if useful, ads.
A mix often works best
A common plan is to use a macro creator to create the moment and many micro creators to keep the conversation going, then reuse the best content in your own channels and ads.
Checks before you hire
- Look at the comments: are they real conversations or generic emojis?
- Look at their past brand work: does it look natural?
- Ask for audience details: location, age and interests.
- Agree in writing: what will be posted, when, and what rights you have to reuse it.
- Disclose paid partnerships properly, as the platform and advertising rules require.
