Meta ads for D2C brands: budget, creative and ROAS basics
How to think about budget, creative and results when you start running Meta (Instagram and Facebook) ads for a D2C brand.

Meta ads can bring D2C customers, but only when the product, the offer, the creative and the targeting work together. Money alone does not fix a weak part. Here is how to approach it, without promises of a magic number.
Before you spend
- A product page that loads fast and explains the offer clearly.
- Tracking set up properly, so you know which ad led to which sale.
- A clear margin: know how much you can spend to win one customer and still make money.
- A good offer: a reason to buy now, such as a bundle, a first-order offer or free delivery.
Budget
Start with an amount large enough to let the platform learn and for you to see a pattern, but small enough to lose without pain. There is no universal figure: it depends on your price, your margin and your category. Plan for testing for a few weeks, then put more behind what works. Remember that ad spend is separate from any agency management fee.
Creative decides most of the result
- Test several hooks, not just several colours: a question, a result, a customer voice, a how-it-is-made.
- Use both statics and short videos, because different people respond to different formats.
- Show the product clearly in the first seconds.
- Say the offer and the next step plainly.
- Refresh the creative: ads tire out when people see them often.
What ROAS means
ROAS is return on ad spend: the revenue from ads divided by what you spent on them. A ROAS of 3 means three rupees of sales for every rupee of ads. A good ROAS depends on your margin. What counts as good for one brand can lose money for another, so set your target from your numbers, and look at profit, not only the ratio.
Read the results in the right order
- Do people stop and watch or click? That is a creative question.
- Do clicks turn into visits that stay? That is a landing page question.
- Do visits turn into orders? That is an offer, price or trust question.
- Do customers come back? That is a product and follow-up question.
